Decision details
The suspension of Ali Newaz's practising certificate for 2025/2026 is terminated.
We intervened into Mr Newaz's practice on 25 February 2026, and his 2025/2026 practising certificate was automatically suspended as part of that decision.
Pursuant to Section 16(4) of the Solicitors Act 1974 the SRA is satisfied that none of the purposes set out in regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations, or the regulatory objectives contained in the Legal Services Act 2007 and the principles governing regulatory activities in section 28 of that Act, make it necessary in the interests of the public to refuse Mr Newaz's application to terminate the suspension of his 2025/2026 practising certificate.
Mr Newaz's practising certificate for 2025/2026 is subject to the following conditions:
- Mr Newaz shall not act as a manager or owner of any authorised body.
- Subject to the condition above, Mr Newaz may act as a solicitor only as an employee and only where that employment has first been approved by the SRA.
- Mr Newaz may not act as a compliance officer for legal practice (COLP) or compliance officer for finance and administration (COFA) for any authorised body.
- Mr Newaz may not hold or receive client money, or act as a signatory to any client account or have the power to authorise transfers from any client account.
In these conditions the terms are as defined in the SRA Glossary.
Reasons/basis
The above conditions are necessary in the public interest. They are reasonable and proportionate having regard to the purposes set out in regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations, and the regulatory objectives and principles governing regulatory activities as contained in section 28 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
