Warning: Correspondence misusing the name of Caroline Isabella Legg

Emails and WhatsApp messages about the supposed recovery of lost investment funds have been sent misusing the name of Caroline Isabella Legg.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that a member of the public has received emails and WhatsApp messages misusing the name of a genuine solicitor 'Caroline Isabella Legg' (see below for details). The emails and WhatsApp messages relate to the supposed recovery of lost investment funds. The emails and WhatsApp messages invite the recipient to make 'tax' payments for the release of the supposed investment funds.
The emails were sent from 'caroline.legg.netto@barristersatlaw.uk.com' and the WhatsApp messages were sent from the contact number '+442081577035'.
Any business or transaction through the email address of 'caroline.legg.netto@barristersatlaw.uk.com' and the contact number '+442081577035' is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Caroline Isbella Legg (SRA ID 498730).
The genuine solicitor has confirmed that they do not have any connection to the emails and WhatsApp messages referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
