A website is operating at 'www.apps-law.com' misusing the name and details of Apps Legal Limited and the name of a genuine solicitor Kirstie Margaret Apps.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that a website is operating at 'www.apps-law.com' misusing the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below) and misuses the name of a genuine solicitor at the firm (see details below).
The website also includes the name 'Apps Law Group', alleging to provide various legal services and falsely purports that the genuine solicitor (see details below) is a 'Managing Partner'.
The email address provided on the website is 'info@apps-law.com'.
The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm with the name of 'Apps Law Group'.
Any business or transaction through the above website and email address is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Apps Legal Limited (SRA ID 645742) and its head office address is 359 The Walk, Holt, Trowbridge, BA14 6RR. The genuine firm does not have a website.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Kirstie Margaret Apps (SRA ID 334281) who is a Director of Apps Legal Limited. The genuine email address is kirstieapps@allparks.co.uk
The genuine firm and genuine solicitor have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
