Warning: Correspondence sent misusing the name and details of Kim Rogers and JNP Legal Limited

Correspondence sent to a member of the public falsely claiming to be from Kim Rogers and JNP Legal Limited.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that an email has been sent to a member of the public containing correspondence which misuses the name and details of a genuine solicitor and a genuine firm (see below).

The email was sent from the email address alert.rosalee@elsmh.healthknowledgecenter.info and contains a letter referring to a supposed property sale.

The letter provides the telephone number '01443 706417', fax number '01685 723654', email address Liberty@jnplegal.org, office address 1 High Street, Nelson, Treharris, CF46 6EU and directs the recipient to ask for 'Liberty Jones'.

Any business or transaction through the email address alert.rosalee@elsmh.healthknowledgecenter.info and/or the letter is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Kim Rogers (SRA ID 400888). The telephone number '01443 706417' is the genuine direct line for Kim Rogers at JNP Legal Limited.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm called JNP Legal Limited (SRA number 562715). The genuine firm uses the email domain @jnplegal.org, telephone number 01685350421, fax number 01685 723654 and head office address 15 Glebeland Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8AU.

JNP Legal Limited has a branch office (SRA ID 563835) with the address 1 High Street, Nelson, Treharris, CF46 6EU. This office uses the telephone number 01443450561 and fax number 01443451987.

The genuine firm of solicitors JNP Legal Limited has confirmed that neither it nor Kim Rogers has any connection to the correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
