Warning: Letters misusing the name and details of Falcon Legal Solicitors Limited falsely claiming to be from 'Kim Liam'

Letters have been sent relating to a life insurance policy, purporting to be from 'Kim Liam' a 'Principal Solicitor', misusing the name and details of the genuine firm of solicitor's Falcon Legal Solicitors Limited (see details below).

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen letters sent to members of the public purporting to be from 'Kim Liam' in relation to an 'unclaimed life insurance policy'.

The letters include a bogus logo 'Falcon Legal', misusing the genuine firm of solicitor's address (see details below) and provides a telephone number '+447345872630', email addresses 'info@falconlegals.co.uk', 'kim.liam@falconlegals.co.uk', 'kim556828@gmail.com' and the website 'www.falconlegals.co.uk'. The signature also states 'Kim Liam', 'Principal Solicitor'.

The website appears to have now been taken down by the host domain.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any individual with the name 'Kim Liam' or any firm with the name 'Falcon Legal'.

Any business or transaction through the email addresses, telephone number and bogus website referred to in the scam alert above is not undertaken by any firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitor's called Falcon Legal Solicitors Limited (SRA number 567211). The genuine firm's head office address is 41 Hayesford Park Drive, Bromley, BR2 9DA and their genuine telephone number is 02082906787, the genuine email domain is @falconlegal.co.uk and their website address is www.falconlegal.co.uk. (Please note there is no 's' in the genuine email domain and website).

The genuine firm has confirmed that it does not employ any individual with the name 'Kim Liam'.

The genuine firm has also confirmed it has no connection to the letters and contact details referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
